Elin Beginner Guide

In this beginner’s guide we’ll show you how to play with tutorials and all the details you need to know in Elin!

Elin Complete Guide

Elin offers a much more user-friendly tutorial compared to Elona. Completing the tutorial is essential, as it introduces the basic controls and provides you with various items that will help you get started. Even though you could skip the tutorial and still progress, doing so might cause you to miss out on important items. That’s why we’ve prepared this guide on how to make the most of the tutorial.

Like Elona, Elin features a high level of freedom, which means there’s a lot to grasp before you can advance smoothly. It’s a highly engaging game, and we hope this guide helps you overcome the initial learning curve. Enjoy exploring Elin!

Starting the Game

Once you can move your character, talk to Shadow of Mysilia, named “Ashland.”

  • After talking, a “Land Deed” will appear at your feet. Pick it up and read it.
  • Then, talk to Ashland again to get some items. Use your left mouse button, select “Pick all,” and collect them.

Using the Axe

  • The axe will be used often, so place it in your shortcut area for easy access.

Understanding Shortcuts

  • Shortcuts let you quickly access items you use a lot, like tools (axes, pickaxes) and weapons (staves, pebbles, guns), as well as abilities and spells.
  • The leftmost slot shows what you’re currently holding. For example, if you want to chop wood, make sure the leftmost slot has the axe.
  • The shortcuts can be switched using “target clicking,” the “mouse wheel,” or “number keys.” Switching with the mouse wheel can feel easier.

Sometimes, you’ll need to use “bare hands” to do certain actions. To switch to bare hands, click the leftmost column or focus on it with the mouse wheel.

Getting a Pet

Talk to Shadow of Mysilia, named “Fiama.”

  • You can choose a type of pet (companion) to help you. If you’re unsure, the “little girl” pet is a reliable choice for battles.
  • If your pet dies, you can revive it for free by talking to Fiama.

Essential Equipment

Check the request board to find tasks from Ashland. Start with “Essential Equipment.”

  • You’ll get a “Sturdy Box.” Pick it up and think about where you want to place it. You need to “grab” it before placing it.
  • Normally, “grab” is done with a right-click, but if right-click does something else, use the middle-click instead.
  • The grab mark means you’re holding it, which lets you place the item. Find a good spot and set it down.
  • Once the box is placed, open it and click on the permission icon to change it from private to shared. Talk to Ashland to complete this task.

Frontier Inspector

After finishing “Essential Equipment,” new tasks will show up, including “Frontier Inspector.”

  • You can choose “I want to live as I please,” but the task will still stay on the board.
  • Talk to Loytel to complete the task. Loytel can sell you supplies and even join you as a companion. If he dies, you can revive him by talking to Fiama.

First Shipping Box

After clearing “Frontier Inspector,” you’ll see a new task called “First Shipping Box,” which gives you a box to help you earn money and gold nuggets.

  • Before starting, create a workbench. First, gather logs using your axe, then craft a Workbench from “Quick Craft.”
  • Place the Workbench by right-clicking to grab and set it down. You can’t use the Workbench unless it’s placed.
  • While setting up, also make a “Makeshift Bed” for better stamina recovery. Gather “grass” and “leaf” by cutting weeds. Place the bed once it’s crafted.

Complete the “First Shipping Box” Task

  • Use “Palulu logs” specifically for the shipping box; other materials won’t work.
  • Collect the materials around your feet, then go to the workbench. The shipping box will be added to the list of items you can make. Be sure to use Palulu logs – if a different material is selected, click on it to change.
  • After crafting, place the shipping box and talk to Loytel to finish the task. Items in the box are collected every day at 5 AM, earning you money and gold nuggets.
  • If you accidentally use Palulu logs for something else, you can find more logs on the coastal map.

The Way of the Crafter

Learn the basics of crafting and building a house in this crafting tutorial.

  • The workbench is already crafted and placed.
  • Remember, most items need to be placed to be used.
  • You can talk to Ashland since the workbench is ready.

Crafting a Torch

  • Go to the workbench and craft a torch.
  • Equip it in the light source slot.
  • To craft a torch, you’ll need branches, string, and resin.
  • String can be made from vines at the workbench.
  • If you’re unsure where to find materials, explore around the base to gather items.

Once you have enough materials, open the workbench, make the string, and then craft the torch. Equip it to the light source slot for better visibility.

Building a House

To create a simple house:

  1. From the workbench, craft one “Grass Door” and ten “Grass Walls.”
  2. Arrange the walls in a 2×3 layout to create a small enclosure.
  3. Right-click to grab and place each wall.
  4. To change a wall’s direction, use the middle-click.
  5. Once the walls are placed, add the door. Note: a door requires walls on both sides.

After completing the house, talk to Ashland for rewards like a training dummy, which is useful for combat training, and a “Signboard Workshop Recipe” to create signboards for resident instructions.

Buying “Home Board” and “Resident Board” from Fiama

  • Speak to Fiama and choose “Let me see your home equipment.”
  • Purchase the “Home Board” and “Resident Board” for the first 10 gold bars.
  • Place these boards to use them.

The Home Board allows you to set a “Policy.” Only as many policies can be active as your “admin points” allow.

Recommended starting policies:

  • Growth Suppression: Stops enemies from growing stronger early on. Remove later to allow growth.
  • Strict Anti-Littering Law: Reduces trash at the base.
  • Weed Pulling Campaign: Prevents weed overgrowth.
  • Tax-Free Land: Starts as active; leave it on.

You can remove Growth Suppression once you’re ready to handle stronger enemies.

The Resident Board helps manage resident information.

Other useful items from Fiama:

  • Millstone Recipe: Used for making crim powder, which has multiple uses and is good for earning money.
  • Watch Fire Recipe: Provides light outdoors; helpful for night operations but goes out in the rain.

Defense Training

A combat tutorial.

  • Hover over enemies to see their strength.
  • The enemies can’t move, but they will attack if you get close.
  • Use your pet to fight Punk safely.

After defeating Punk, talk to Ashland. Next, you’ll face a boar.

Fighting the Boar

  • Use ranged attacks to stay safe from its counterattacks.
  • Pick up potions and pebbles.
  • To throw a pebble, grab it with right-click, aim at the enemy, and throw.
  • Middle-click also lets you grab items if right-click is set to another action.

Once the boar is defeated, report back to Ashland. He’ll assign you to defeat 100 enemies.

Defeating 100 Enemies

  • Track your progress in the quest tracker.
  • You can complete this over time, so don’t rush.

After finishing, talk to Ashland for 10 platinum coins, which you can use with skill trainers in towns to learn and improve skills.

Tip: Keep platinum coins and gold bars in your wallet to save space in your backpack.

Tax Liability

You won’t need to worry about this until you receive a bill.

To the New Lands

You may not be able to start this quest right away, but accept it to trigger the next “Fiama’s Feeling.”

  • Feel free to use scrolls obtained during this quest.
  • This quest involves investigating a specific location, with parts unlocking as you progress in the main story, so try to tackle it when it feels right.

Fiama’s Feeling

This request becomes available after starting “To the New Lands.”

  • Recipes Obtained: Stonecutter, Mason’s Table, and Drafting Table.
  • These recipes are essential for crafting advancement.
  • The early-game weapons and armor crafted here are reliable.

Fiama’s Lecture

A quest that appears after completing “Fiama’s Feeling.”

  • You’ll receive a locked treasure chest with tools to open it later. For now, speak with Fiama and hold onto it until it’s accessible.

Lost Puppy

A quest where you’ll need to head into a dungeon to find a lost puppy.

  • The dungeon may be challenging at first, so consider returning when your character is stronger.

Pioneer Spirit

This quest is about preparing for farming by crafting tools and processing materials.

  • Goal: Craft a hoe and shovel, both of which are made at the Tinker’s Table.

Steps to Craft the Tinker’s Table:

  1. Craft a Workbench (using 2 logs).
  2. Craft a Sawmill (3 logs, 3 stones).
  3. Use the Sawmill to turn logs into planks.
  4. Craft a Carpenter’s Table (4 planks, 2 stones).
  5. Craft a table and chair at the Carpenter’s Table.
  6. Finally, craft the Tinker’s Table using the table, chair, and 2 bones.

Tools at the Tinker’s Table:

  • Pickaxe: Allows digging through walls.
  • Hammer: Disassembles items into components.
  • Sickle: Harvests seeds from plants and crops.

After Crafting: Report back to Loytel to learn about soil fertility.

  • Rewards: Tomato, pasture, and mushroom seeds.
  • For more effective farming, also get a sickle and watering can.

Vision for the Future

This quest unlocks one week after the game begins, offering rewards based on your selection.

  • Options 1 or 3 are recommended since they provide equipment.
