In Deskrawl: Idle ARPG, I build the Monk around Dodge Chance, Critical Strike Damage, fast basic attacks, and reliable mana recovery. The core of this setup is turning Dodge into both defense and damage while using the Hundred Hands rune set to strengthen Furious Fist and trigger Golden Palms automatically.
Monk Build Guide
In this guide, I explain the Monk build I use for higher difficulties, including my level-by-level talent route, Life Skills priorities, Paragon stats, equipment affixes, legendary gear, companions, and active skills.
How the Monk Build Works
On Nightmare and Inferno difficulties, I rely less on basic Health and Armor stacking and instead build around the Monk’s Dodge-based synergies.
- Formless: At Tier 60, this converts my total Dodge Chance percentage into bonus Critical Strike Damage.
- Zephyr’s Flow: Every successful dodge restores mana, giving me consistent resource sustain.
- Mirror Steps: After I dodge, I gain additional flat physical damage. In melee combat, I can keep this active almost constantly.
- Hundred Hands: The rune set doubles Basic Attack damage, provides up to +60% Physical Damage through Furious Fist stacks, and can trigger Golden Palms automatically without spending mana.
Monk Combat Talents
At Level 60, I have exactly 60 talent points, so I cannot fully upgrade every node. Talent rows unlock after reaching their required cumulative point totals, and the capstones at Levels 10, 30, and 60 are mutually exclusive within their respective rows.
For this build, I take Formless as my Level 60 capstone. I cannot combine it with Iron Constitution.
I also avoid putting 8 points into Dodge and 10 points into Physical Damage too early. Doing that delays access to Mirror Steps and Zephyr’s Flow.
The game data also has no MonkTalent35 or MonkTalent40 entries. These positions are legacy gaps in the data rather than missing talents I need to unlock.
Monk Level-by-Level Talent Build
Levels 1-5
I spend my first 5 points on Dodge Chance, reaching 5/8. This is enough to unlock the next talent row.
Levels 6-10
I put 4 points into Attack Speed and 1 additional point into Dodge Chance, bringing Dodge to 6/8 and my total investment to 10 points.
Level 11
I take Mirror Steps at 1/1. This gives me flat physical damage after dodging and is easy to maintain during melee combat.
Levels 12-15
I add 2 more points to Dodge Chance for 8/8 and 2 more points to Attack Speed for 6/6.
Levels 16-20
I max Zephyr’s Flow at 5/5. From this point, each dodge generates mana and handles the build’s resource sustain.
Levels 21-29
I spend 9 points on Fundamentals, bringing it to 9/10 and increasing the damage of my Basic Attack skills.
Level 30
I take Gathered Force at 1/1. My Basic Attacks can now build charges that empower my next Strong Attack.
Levels 31-40
I finish Fundamentals at 10/10, max Vigor at 8/8, and put 1 point into Heavy Hands.
Levels 41-50
I max Enhance Spirit Twin: Duration at 6/6 and put 4 points into Slipstream.
Levels 51-59
I max Enhance Golden Palms: Damage & Mana Cost at 8/8 and put 1 point into Exploit Weakness.
Level 60
My final point goes into Formless at 1/1. This is the central talent of the build because it converts Dodge Chance into additional Critical Strike Damage.
Final 60-point allocation: 8 Dodge Chance, 6 Attack Speed, 1 Mirror Steps, 5 Zephyr’s Flow, 8 Vigor, 10 Fundamentals, 1 Heavy Hands, 1 Gathered Force, 6 Spirit Twin Duration, 4 Slipstream, 8 Golden Palms, 1 Exploit Weakness, and 1 Formless.
Best Life Skills for Monk
Life Skills provide permanent account progression. I prioritize them in the following order for this Monk build.
- Item Find / Magic Find: My first priority because it improves drop quality and helps me collect the six Hundred Hands runes and Deflecting Handwraps.
- Gold Find: I use the extra gold for carriage automation, crafting, and talent respecs.
- XP Gain: This helps me reach Level 60 faster and speeds up Paragon progression.
- Revive Cooldown: I take Decrease Auto Revive Cooldown I and II to reduce downtime during difficult progression stages.
- Carriage Upgrades: I prioritize Carriage Capacity, Auto-Sell filters, and Auto Fill Inventory for smoother idle farming.
Best Monk Paragon Stats
After reaching Level 60, I distribute my Paragon points around the stats that support Dodge, critical hits, attack speed, and sustain.
| Category | Priority Stat | Why I Use It |
|---|---|---|
| Core | Dexterity | My primary Monk attribute and a direct way to increase martial skill damage. |
| Core | Movement Speed | I raise it up to the +25% Paragon cap for faster clearing. |
| Core | Max Health % | Gives me extra protection against unavoidable damage and area attacks. |
| Offense | Critical Strike Chance | I prioritize this to make Furious Fist critical hits as consistent as possible. |
| Offense | Critical Strike Damage | Multiplies the damage gained through Formless. |
| Offense | Attack Speed | Lets me build Furious Fist’s 20 stacks very quickly. |
| Defense | Dodge Chance | This is my main defensive stat because it also increases Critical Strike Damage through Formless. |
| Defense | Magic Resist | Helps against elemental attacks from late-game Inferno bosses. |
| Defense | Physical Damage Reduction | Reduces the damage from attacks that get through my Dodge checks. |
| Utility | Life on Hit | Works especially well with the high attack speed of a fully stacked Furious Fist. |
| Utility | Item Find / Gold Find | Improves the efficiency of my offline and idle farming. |
Monk Equipment Affix Priority
Before I have the full legendary setup, I use Rare and Epic gear with affixes that support the same core stats.
| Slot | Affix Priority |
|---|---|
| Weapon | Flat Weapon Damage > Physical Damage % > Basic Attack Damage % > Critical Strike Damage % > Attack Speed % |
| Helmet | Dodge Chance % > Cooldown Reduction > Max Health % > Armor |
| Chest | Dodge Chance % > Physical Damage Reduction % > Max Health % > Magic Resist |
| Gloves | Critical Strike Chance % > Critical Strike Damage % > Attack Speed % > Dodge Chance % |
| Boots | Movement Speed % > Dodge Chance % > Max Health % > Magic Resist |
| Rings | Critical Strike Chance % > Critical Strike Damage % > Dodge Chance % > Life on Hit |
| Amulet | Critical Strike Chance % > Critical Strike Damage % > Basic Attack Damage % > Dodge Chance % |
Best Legendary Gear for Monk
For the completed version of the build, these are the legendary items I use together with the six-piece Hundred Hands rune setup.
Deflecting Handwraps
Each Furious Fist stack gives me +1% Dodge Chance. At 20 stacks, that becomes +20% Dodge Chance, which also feeds directly into Formless for additional Critical Strike Damage.
Evasive Cuirass
This chest piece gives me additional Physical Damage Reduction equal to 50% of my Dodge Chance. At 70-80% Dodge Chance, that equals 35-40% Physical Damage Reduction. I can use Unyielding Cuirass as an alternative.
Visage of the Undying
I use this helmet for its 25% reduction to all incoming damage. For a more offensive alternative, Ring of Concentration gives +100% damage to the next Golden Palms.
Soulrender
Soulrender has a 25% chance to build Soul Harvest. At 25 stacks, it releases Soul Strike for 800% Physical Damage in an area and also stuns enemies. With more than four hits per second, I can trigger these attacks frequently and activate Exploit Weakness.
I can also use The Grandmother as an alternative for +5% Critical Strike Chance and +120% Critical Strike Damage.
Pendant of Vigor
The Pendant of Vigor gives me +75% total damage while I am Healthy above 80% Health. High Dodge Chance and Life on Hit help me maintain the required Health level.
Ring of Revelation
While I stand still, this ring gives +10% Basic Attack Damage per second and stacks up to 20 times. At maximum stacks, that adds +200% Basic Attack Damage to Furious Fist during stationary melee combat.
Charged Ring
Charged Ring gives me up to +50% bonus damage depending on my current Mana percentage. Because Zephyr’s Flow continuously restores mana through Dodge, I can keep this bonus active consistently. For bosses, I can switch to Dragonslayer Ring for +35% Attack Speed.
Battle Draught Belt
When I drink a potion, this belt grants +35% total damage for 6 seconds, giving me a strong burst window against stage and dungeon bosses.
Boots of the Windcaller
After a kill, these boots give me +50% Movement Speed for 4 seconds, which improves clear speed during idle runs. Healing Tread Boots are another option and restore 3% Max Health per second while moving.
Black Mist Gear
For Pants, Shoulders, and Cloak, I use Black Mist Gear as the legendary crafting base. It has seven revealable Workshop affixes, and I look for Dodge Chance %, Physical Damage %, Max Health %, and Magic Resist.
Rune of Hundred Hands
I use all six Hundred Hands runes. The two-piece bonus gives +100% Basic Attack Damage. The four-piece bonus gives +3% Physical Damage for every Furious Fist stack, reaching +60% at 20 stacks. The six-piece bonus gives Furious Fist a 25% chance to trigger Golden Palms automatically and without mana cost.
I cannot equip two identical unique rings with the same name. My normal combination is Ring of Revelation + Charged Ring, with Dragonslayer Ring as a boss alternative.
Monk Stat Caps and Scaling
| Stat | Behavior | How I Build Around It |
|---|---|---|
| Critical Strike Chance | 100% functional cap | I aim for around 75-85% from gear so combat bonuses can bring me to 100%. Anything above 100% gives no additional benefit. |
| Dodge Chance | Linear and uncapped for Formless | Each additional 1% Dodge continues adding Critical Strike Damage through Formless. |
| Critical Strike Damage | No cap | I continue scaling it because it multiplies the damage supported by Hundred Hands. |
| Attack Speed | Practical diminishing returns | After reaching 20 Furious Fist stacks, I start prioritizing Critical Damage, Physical Damage %, or Dodge instead. |
| Movement Speed | +25% Paragon cap | A boot affix around +15% to +20% is enough for comfortable movement. |
Best Monk Companions
Early Game
- Bloodmoon Werewolf: I use Bloodmoon Howl for a large temporary Attack Speed boost, helping me reach 20 Furious Fist stacks quickly.
- Big Treant: Healing Spirit restores a percentage of Max Health and gives me additional sustain before I have Life on Hit from Paragon.
Mid Game
- Ice Hound: Capacitor Shell gives me an absorption shield that stuns nearby enemies when it breaks, which can activate Exploit Weakness.
- Redrock Lord: Power of Redrock Lord gives me a temporary flat Physical Damage increase.
Late Game and Inferno
- Cinder Lord: Wrath of Cinder provides a large Critical Strike Damage multiplier and works directly with the Formless damage setup.
- Flame Dragon / Glacial Dragon: I can use Flame Armor for a magic shield or Glacial Shard for crowd control when I need more defensive consistency.
Best Monk Skills and Ability Setup
For my Hundred Hands Critical Dodge build, I use the following active skill setup.
- Basic Attack: Furious Fist – Builds up to 20 momentum stacks and gives me rapid attacks at no mana cost.
- Strong Attack: Golden Palms – The Hundred Hands set can trigger it automatically and for free.
- Special 1: Wind Steps – Temporarily gives me a large increase to Dodge Chance.
- Special 2: Spirit Twin – Summons a spirit copy that mirrors my Basic and Strong Attacks in real time.
- Rune Set: Hundred Hands – I use all six pieces for +100% Basic Attack Damage, up to +60% Physical Damage from Furious Fist stacks, and free Golden Palms triggers.
Alternative Strong Attacks
- Sacred Judgment: A heavy single-target holy lightning strike.
- Piercing Lunge: A linear piercing thrust.
- Whirlwind Staff: Creates wandering tornadoes that deal area damage.
Alternative Special Skills
- Sacred Orbs: Creates orbiting holy lightning projectiles.
- Spirit Stream: Channels either healing or a lightning pulse.
- Charge: Rushes forward and stuns enemies in an area.
- Divine Thunder: Creates a stationary area lightning storm that inflicts Daze.
For the Hundred Hands setup, I keep Wind Steps + Spirit Twin because they directly support the build’s Dodge scaling and attack frequency.
Monk Inferno Achievement
Difficulty achievements do not carry across different classes. Completing Inferno as a Sorcerer or Warrior does not unlock the Monk achievement.
The Monk achievement is INFERNO_MONK, and I need to complete the highest difficulty specifically while playing the Monk.
