Placing cat box inside cabin to adopt the cat

Road to Vostok Where to find Cat

In this guide, I’ll walk you through how I complete the Missing Cat quest step by step. From preparation to safely bringing the cat back home, I explain exactly what I do and what you should watch out for during the journey.

Missing Cat Quest in Road to Vostok

This quest requires careful planning, resource management, and safe navigation between multiple areas. I recommend preparing properly before starting, as failing at any point means starting over.

Step 1: Wait Until Day 4

First, I wait until Day 4 for the “Missing Cat” event to become available. During this time, I play normally, sleep to pass time, and collect as many healing and food items as possible because they are essential for this run.

Step 2: Finding the Cat

This part is more challenging than it looks. I have to travel across multiple zones in one run (Village → School → Outpost → School → Village). Each transition drains hydration and energy, so I make sure to bring enough consumables.

I stop by the Generalist to restock supplies, especially items that restore Mental, since those are harder to recover. Then I follow the right side of the map past the lake until I reach the road and the transfer point.

Step 3: School

Once I reach the School area, I carefully explore nearby buildings for loot. Bandits can spawn here, so I stay alert. I also check inside cars, especially the driver seats, since they can contain valuable items like weapons.

I cross the bridge and head toward the large yellow building. Inside, I find the Doctor NPC on the top floor. His prices are high, but I still buy splints and painkillers if needed.

After that, I follow the main road past the bus stop and abandoned car until I reach the transfer point to the Outpost.

Step 4: Outpost

The Outpost is dangerous due to its open layout. Enemies can spot me from far away, so I move carefully. I stick to the right side of the map and keep moving forward until I find a bunker entrance.

Inside the bunker, I follow the sound of the cat. I locate a well covered with wooden planks, and at the bottom, I find the cat inside a box. I interact with it to rescue the cat.

I make sure I have enough inventory space, since the cat box takes up significant slots and weight. Also, the cat may spawn in different bunkers, not just one.

Step 5: Bringing It Home

Now I return the same way I came. I move toward the School area again and heal if necessary. If I die at any point, I have to restart everything, so I play carefully.

After crossing back into the Village, I restock if needed and follow the train tracks back to my cabin.

I place the cat box inside my cabin (without dropping it). After a few seconds, it opens automatically, and the cat becomes mine.

I make sure to feed the cat regularly. It eats Cat Food, Tuna, Meat, or Perch. The food doesn’t have to be in my inventory, as long as it’s somewhere in the cabin.

Bonus Tips

  • Enemies can respawn behind me, so I always stay alert.
  • I always carry splints, since fractures can be deadly.
  • I avoid improvised splints because they don’t work properly.
  • Loot resets every time I re-enter a map.
  • I complete the entire run in one go without exiting outside a safehouse.
