Bushido Ball in UFO 50 is quite fun and it will be even more fun if you know the power rankings of the characters. In this guide you can find the tier list and tips on which character to choose.
UFO 50 Character Power Rankings
I’m ranking these characters assuming that no one is using the unbeatable lob (which is an unfair trick). These rankings focus more on higher-level player vs. player (PvP) battles, not arcade mode. But, this list can still show you who’s the best to pick for arcade mode.
(And if you’re wondering, “Why is character X in Mid or Weak? They’re super strong as an arcade boss!” – every character is tough as a boss, but that’s just because the computer AI is really strong.)
Tomoe is the best, use her if the game is too hard. Avoid Raizo and Ayumi, but they are still usable.
Tiers
- Good: These are the best characters and the easiest to win with.
- Mid: These characters are decent, but either not as good as others or harder to succeed with.
- Weak: These characters require more effort to win. They aren’t impossible to use, but there are better options.
Key Terms:
- Standard Shot: Hitting the ball while standing or walking. You can aim it up, down, or straight.
- Fastball: Hitting the ball during or after a dash. This makes the ball go faster but at a flatter angle.
- Lob: Holding back while hitting the ball to send it high in the air instead of straight across.
- Unbeatable Lob: Dashing forward and lobbing the ball. This sends it flying past your opponent with no chance for them to touch it (which is why we don’t count it in the rankings).
- Normals: Regular attacks that don’t use special resources. This includes standard shots, fastballs, and lobs.
- Special: A move performed by double-tapping the attack button. This costs half a bar of your meter.
- Super: A move performed by holding the attack button during a standard shot. This costs a full bar of your meter.
- Bar/Meter: The bars at the top of the screen that fill up as you hit the ball.
- Full Bar: Needed for a Super move.
- Half Bar: Needed for a Special move.
Good Characters
Tomoe (Yellow)
Tomoe is the best character, no question. She has the best roll, allowing her to change direction mid-roll, which lets her reach balls other characters can’t. Her high control and fast dash make it easy for her to score even without using meter.
Tomoe becomes even scarier when she has 50 bar. Her special move, Hook, lets her take control and punish any mistake, even when the ball is on the opponent’s side. She’s also great at punishing players who try to sneak past her defenses.
Her super can be a bit unpredictable, but it forces the opponent to guess which way she’ll hit the ball. Tomoe is strong in every part of the game: offense, defense, and making smart plays.
Kotaro (Red)
Kotaro is a strong character because of his fastballs and balanced stats. He can punish bad positioning easily and has strong normal shots, although his horizontal reach is a bit limited compared to others.
His special is a fast projectile that can change the ball’s path and throw off the opponent’s defense. His super is a more powerful fastball that’s great at punishing players who hang out near the top or bottom of the screen. Kotaro rewards players who can keep good positioning and set up mixups.
Mid Characters
Yamada
Yamada has great range on his attacks, making it hard to get a ball past him. However, his attacks only hit in one direction at a time, so he has to be very precise. While he’s great at defending, his low speed and limited mixup game hold him back.
His special, Bomb, can send the ball in unpredictable directions, which is both a great offensive and defensive tool. However, Yamada has to position himself well, or he’ll be vulnerable. His super is decent but hard to use effectively because of his slow speed.
Chiyome
Chiyome is the fastest character in the game and has amazing defense, thanks to her teleporting roll and fast movement. Her roll also leaves a log behind that can block shots, making her tough to score against. Unfortunately, her normal shots are very weak, and she relies on building up her meter to be a threat.
Her special is similar to Kotaro’s but is her main offensive tool. Her super is a quick fastball that can catch opponents off-guard. Chiyome is great defensively, but you’ll need meter to make her offense work.
Weak Characters
Ayumi
Ayumi has similar moves to Kotaro, but with faster movement and less power. She’s decent at defense, but her offense is weaker. Her special, Caltrops, sets a trap that can mess with the opponent, but it can backfire if the opponent hits the trap and uses it against you.
Her super is an unpredictable fastball, but it’s not hard for an opponent to interrupt it. Ayumi can use her speed and tricky moves to win, but she’s less effective than other characters.
Raizo
Raizo is slow, has limited reach, and struggles to create scoring opportunities. He relies on the opponent making mistakes or being out of position. His special, Windwall, can mess with the opponent’s defense, but it’s easy to dodge if the opponent is paying attention.
Raizo’s super is similar to others in that it’s a mixup, but it’s not particularly special. He works best in long matches where he can wear down the opponent, but he lacks tools to force these situations consistently.
