You can find the information you will need to start a new game in Orebound, ores, how to get them and many other details in this guide.
Complete Guide
Welcome to the game, brave Dwarf! The king has given you a quest: fly into the old kingdom and recover the lost gems of power from the orc horde. Let’s get started on your journey.
When you start the game, click “Begin Journey” to start the adventure.
The Citadel and Starting a New Game
You’ll wake up in your quarters at the Dwarven barracks. You’ll see a screen with game stats, but they’ll be empty for now. As you play, you’ll see stats like gold earned, kills, and boars cooked. Explore the barracks, then head through the door to enter the Great Hall.
In the Great Hall, take a moment to admire the Dwarven engineering. You’ll find a celebration for you, so feel free to join in. When ready, go to the blue light to start your journey.
Here, you can load a saved game or start a new one. For this guide, let’s start fresh, so click on “New Map.”
Click on “Random World” to start quickly. The basic settings are friendly for beginners. You can also use a custom seed if you have one. You can adjust the game settings, like resources and enemy difficulty. For a calm building experience, turn off enemies, but keep them on if you want loot to help you progress.
Sandbox mode allows for creative building but isn’t recommended for beginners. For cave density, “dense” means lots of caves (suitable for stronger computers), while “sparse” means fewer caves. Choose the style that suits you.
Once you’ve set everything, click “Go to Airship” to board.
Airship Ride and First Steps
Enjoy the view as you fly over your map. Look around to get an idea of areas you might want to explore.
When the airship lands, jump off to start your adventure. Look around for the quest board—it tells the story and why you’re here. Now, let’s begin exploring!
Taking Inventory
Press “Q” to see what you have. Your hotbar includes a build hammer, sword, torches, flares, a beacon, and tethers. The health potion will be useful as you get started. You can rearrange items on your hotbar if needed.
Building Your First Structure
To build, select the hammer and left-click. You’ll see you need 20 wood and 20 stone to build the quest board, but you don’t have any yet. Start exploring to gather resources.
Find stones and logs scattered around the area. It’s a good idea to gather a few hundred of each to have plenty for future needs. Pick a location you like for building. When ready, head to the next section.
King Quest Board and First Quests
Once you have enough wood and stone, use the build hammer to set up the quest board. Read the description, then speak to the dwarf nearby to see your first quest list. The “Strong Foundations” quest is designed to help you learn the basics.
For “Strong Foundations,” you’ll need to build 12 wooden foundations and an upgrade bench. Use the hammer to build foundations from the Fortress tab. For the upgrade bench, place it on your foundation by using the mouse wheel to adjust.
First Tools and Resources
The next quest, “The Finest Dwarven Lumber,” asks you to gather an axe and 100 wood. Gather wood from trees if needed, then use the upgrade bench to craft an axe.
After that, “Dig for the King!” requires a pickaxe and coal ore. Craft a pickaxe, then use the navigator in your hotbar to locate ore chunks.
How to Find Ore in Orebound
Ore can be found as “nodes” (large, with health bars) or “chunks” (small, no health bars). Nodes take more hits but yield less ore, while chunks provide more ore per hit. To find chunks, use the navigator. As the bar fills up and the sound quickens, you’re close.
Once you find coal, gather as much as needed for the quest. Then, return to the quest board to turn it in.
The beginning of Dwarven industry
Finally, we are ready for some industry! The proudest day of any Dwarven guildmaster is when his young charge starts their path to industry and the command of machines.
If you mouse over the two items this quest wants you to build, it will tell you what they are, and what they take to make. Once you see what you need, open your build menu again and go to the crafting tab.
Here you see the research station. The quest also wants you to make the kings market. Use what you have learned so far and build both of those stations. You might consider some more wooden foundations at this point, but that is entirely up to you. Once built, go ahead and turn in the quest and see what is next.
This quest requires that we build something we do not know how to make yet, and gather something we have no way of making. Time to talk to the research dwarf.
When you talk to him, it opens up what you see here. Go ahead and look through for a moment, and return to Factory and Manufacturing when you are ready to continue. The item it wants us to build is the smeltery. You unlock that with Automation 1. Since we have been doing the quests up to this point, we should have the gold needed to unlock it no problem. Do so now.
One you unlock it, go ahead and build one. Once it is built, open it up and lets smelt some iron!
When you first open the smeltery, nothing is setup, and it will not accept any input. So lets start by clicking iron in the list. You now see at the bottom input, and fuel slots. Shift + Left click any iron ore in your inventory to move that stack into the input slot, and then shift + left click to move some coal. It will start to make iron ingots for you. What you do now is up to you. You can go mine, gather more wood/stone/ore, build your base… Whatever you want while you wait for enough ingots to smelt to finish your current quest. You could also build 20 more smelteries and speed up the ingot making process. The choice is yours. Once done, complete the quest, and check out the next one.
Manufactured Goods, and Dwarves first Machine
Alright. The next quest wants us to build a bed and a blacksmith. To build a bed, you need to go into the build menu and look at interior. It requires leather. You have 2 choices to acquire leather. Either buy some from the kings market, or go kill some boar. Lets talk combat.
Combat is super simple in Orebound.
Left click to attack
Right click to defend.
Once you kill the boar, loot it and gather what you find.
Once you have the required leather to make your bed, go do so.
Finally, we need to make a blacksmith. That requires you to unlock Automation 2, which costs 2.5k gold and 25 iron ingots. You already know how to get more ingots. Gold on the other hand is a bit trickier at this stage. Here is a hint, just about everything you can gather or craft can be sold at the kings market. OR, if you check out the kings bounty board, you might just find a way to make the money you need. Your call Dwarf, come back when you have unlocked Automation 2, and built your first blacksmith.
Once you have done that, check out what the next quest is from the board. YOu need to build a drill, and gather some coal ore. If you need more iron gears, head to your blacksmith. Select the gears from his list like you did the smelter, give him some iron ingots and gold for payment, and he will craft what you need.
Find yourself a coal node using the navigator, build that drill on the node, give it at least 1 bit of coal to get started, and congratulations. You have learned everything you need to finish the beginning quests, and start your factory growing.
