You can find information and tips on the Kira-Follower game in DEATH NOTE Killer Within in this guide.
Kira & Follower Guide
This guide assumes that you’re playing with the default room settings. By default, ID theft (which happens when you stand close to someone long enough for the bar to fill up) is automatic.
There’s another option for this setting that can change how Kira is played. You can switch off automatic ID theft. This makes a big difference in your strategy, so keep this in mind. But for this guide, we’ll assume that ID theft is automatic.
You can check this setting from the lobby by going to:
- Room Settings > Detailed Settings > Team Kira > Toggle Automatic ID Theft
If this setting is ON, you can choose when to steal IDs. The game is still very new, and this guide is just a starting point to help you create your own strategies.
In this guide “Kira” refers to the player who has the Death Note. “Follower” refers to Kira’s teammate, who helps Kira.
Kira Basics
Kira’s objective is to kill L or accumulate 100 points to establish a New World Order. The Follower’s objective is to assist Kira in achieving these goals.
Both Kira and the Follower have a Shinigami, guiding them to players who have interacted with more than one other player.
Kira can kill a player only if they have that player’s ID or if a player’s name was publicly mentioned in a meeting or during an arrest. Kira and the Follower can steal IDs by staying close to other players for a certain period, but standing too close for too long may alert the target. A vigilant Investigator might take note of who they interact with, so using the Shinigami to find players who have had multiple contacts can make it harder for others to trace ID theft back to Kira.
Kira and the Follower also have ability cards that help them create situations for reliable ID theft without getting caught.
Game Mechanics and Strategy:
- Kira can pass the Death Note to the Follower, but this action is visible to all players.
- Both Kira and the Follower are marked by a red arrow, showing each other’s location, and they share a private communication line through a “transceiver.”
Kira Gameplan Basics
The simplest path to victory is by eliminating L, which motivates Kira to target as many players as possible. However, randomly killing and stealing IDs is a fast way to get exposed. A safer strategy involves targeting players who have interacted with multiple others. The Shinigami will mark these players with a purple aura, identifying ideal ID-theft targets since they can’t immediately pin the theft on Kira.
Another good target is players completing “Kira Command Card” tasks, as their screen is obstructed during these actions, making it easier to steal their ID unnoticed. To avoid suspicion, Kira should mimic Investigators by going to task locations and using the Investigation Notepad to imitate the task animations.
Kill Priority for Kira
Each day, Kira can only kill up to two players, so ID thefts should be planned carefully. The priority list is as follows:
- L
- Confirmed Investigator (from L’s Vindicating Evidence)
- Secondary Investigators (confirmed by other means)
- Others
Special attention should be paid to Confirmed Investigators, as they can gain allies, making it harder for Kira to manage. Ideally, Kira should “Judge” L’s Vindicating Evidence NPC stealthily before they confirm any Investigators.
Lying and Deception
Lies are essential for Kira’s gameplay. Useful lies include:
- “My ID was stolen.”
- “I only interacted with X, and my ID went missing!”
- “X can verify me!”
- “I was tasked with returning a lost item to X.”
Good lies often mimic what a regular Investigator might say.
Avoiding Detection
When targeting players or criminals, ensure no one, including cameras, witnesses your actions. At the start of each round, three rooms are equipped with cameras visible on the ceiling, accessible by L at all times.
Follower Gameplan Basics
As the Follower, you can’t kill, but you can steal IDs, support Kira, and sow discord among other players. The Follower’s goal is to acquire IDs for Kira to “Judge” and to create conflict that slows down Investigators. The Follower is effectively a scapegoat, ready to draw suspicion if needed.
If Kira risks arrest, the Death Note can be swapped to the Follower, as the game ends only if the Death Note holder is arrested.
Advanced Gameplans
Here are advanced tactics to help Kira and the Follower:
- Kira can “Judge” a Follower if they’re arrested, shifting blame to others. This tactic is best for the later stages of the game when there are fewer Investigators.
- Kira and the Follower can cause suspicion by stealing an ID but not killing its owner, as the player will expect to be killed and will alert others, creating misdirection.
- Consider where and how players are killed. Leaving an Investigation Notebook on a victim can be a useful distraction if Investigators start linking deaths to Kira.
- Investigators can trade their notebooks, which can build trust or be used against Kira. Taking possession of the notebooks can give Kira and the Follower another day of trust.
The pen is only as deadly as its wielder. This guide offers an overview of how to play Kira effectively, using the game’s mechanics to build winning scenarios and establish a New World Order.
