You can find all the control and movement tech in Bat to the Heavens in this guide.
Movement Tech and Controls
List of movement tech and controls:
BUILT-IN CONTROLS
Walking, Crouching, and Looking Up
Why would you need to be told how to do this?
- Walking: Press and hold A to move left or D to move right. This does not work mid-air.
- Crouching: Press and hold S to crouch. This lets you fall through semi-solid platforms if you hold the button long enough. Holding it even longer pans the camera downward.
- Looking Up: Press and hold W to look up—useful for checking what’s above.
Sliding
The game just never tells you how to do this.
Quickly press A or D after crouching to perform a slide. This gives you a burst of speed in the chosen direction and allows you to fit into one-tile-high gaps.
BALL MODE
Aka: Using your bat but worse!
While mid-air, double-press and hold S to spin into a ball, reminiscent of a certain blue hedgehog.
- In this state, you can bounce off floors, walls, and ceilings, losing momentum with each bounce.
- You naturally pass through semi-solid platforms while in ball mode.
- Like crouching, your hitbox becomes one tile high.
BATTING
How do I use the bat?
Use the arrow keys to swing your bat. Hold a key longer to charge the swing.
- A longer charge results in a more powerful swing but reduces your friction.
- Holding the charge too long causes a misfire, resulting in no swing.
- Hitting a surface with the bat flings you in the opposite direction. Swinging mid-air propels you slightly in the swing direction unless you hit a wall.
- Hitting objects won’t necessarily kill you—you might even bounce out of a “spike” pit if timed well.
MOVEMENT TECH
Railgunning
Good luck finding a place to use this to its full potential.
While mid-air, you don’t lose momentum to friction. By constantly swinging in one direction while pogoing off the ground, you can build extreme horizontal speed. Starting against a wall helps you gain speed faster.
Roomba Mode
Please don’t patch this (or the next tech) out. They are my lifeblood.
After a slide, press left or right without letting go of down to slide again immediately. This method is much faster than walking and skips the slow start-up of railgunning without a wall.
Learn to Jump
It’s about time you learned how.
Swing upward or downward immediately after starting a slide to preserve horizontal momentum while also gaining height. This is great for clearing difficult ledges.
Small Uppies
R.I.P Big Uppies—you will be missed.
After bouncing from a long fall, spam the upward swing to dramatically increase your bounce height. Unfortunately, this is no longer a reliable way to gain infinite height.
